Recording Progress

Recording holds a different set of factors every time it comes to making a new album. These factors may mean a different room to record in, a different technology to record with, or new musicians. For instance, “Naked as a Jaybird” was recorded using cassette tape, by myself, in a bedroom in 95 plus degree weather, consuming copious amounts of sweet tea. For the currently untitled new album, Bryan (drums, percussion) and I are using portable digital technology. The benefit of recording portable means that we can record outside if we want. You might hear a bird in the background, or a car that passes by.  This is exciting to me, since I have never recorded with something so portable. We could record my vocals in a cave if we want. I have at least 12 songs that we are working with, at the moment, with more on their way. I’ll keep everyone updated on our progress.

Thoughts on Haiti

Wrote some thoughts, in poem, regarding the situation in Haiti:

Read a sad piece in the news/ There’s been trouble in town/ Those unfortunate souls/ Us fortunate clowns/ Think about their struggle/ Feel like my hearts in my mouth/ Think about my family, how I’m glad I still have them/ Think about loving you, and how I still have you too/ Forget about the appeal of modern conduct/ Modern comfort and store bought products/ Do I need them now? While so many suffer, so many are crying?

Updates

Thanks to all who attended the show at Dahlak’s Saturday night, and also to those who have attended other shows recently. Saturday was great, with an excellent crowd that sang (and danced!) along to songs. I thrive on crowd participation. Opener Cannon Fodder played an excellent set with some great originals as well as cool cover song choices.

I will be recording some new songs very soon with my friend/ drummer Bryan Bowman. More updates on that coming soon!
